In a world increasingly seeking sustainable and ethical fashion options, Alpaca wool stands out as a true gem. Below we would like to explain why alpaca wool is not only known for its exceptional quality and... Softness is known, but is also considered a symbol of environmental friendliness and animal-friendly practices.
Alpaca wool is a natural product that is obtained from the fibers of the alpaca, an animal that is primarily native to the Andes in South America - but is also increasingly kept in Europe. One of the most notable features of alpaca wool is its environmental friendliness. Alpacas require comparatively little water and feed, meaning their ecological footprint is significantly smaller than that of many other animals used for textile fibers.
No harm to the animals: A central aspect that makes alpaca wool special is the fact that alpacas are not killed for their wool. Unlike other fur products, where animals are often kept in poor conditions and ultimately killed, alpaca wool is obtained through shearing - a process that, when done correctly, does not harm the animals.
The following photos show our alpaca Greta, before and after shearing - when she was still a baby alpaca and a particularly fluffy alpaca animal.
